Introduction To This Website
This is a small website dedicated to my poetry and verses; the poetry and verses of Mysty Brett, or Mary Brett, (I'm one of those people who've got two names, due to having lived a “double life”, (in youth), trying to express their talents, etc., (in my case, divination and the psi), despite controlling, intimidating, and dangerous relatives, who were motivated by religious obsession issues… )
Mysty, which I think of as being short for “Mystical Rose”, (if my parents had to be original and name me after the Blessed Virgin, why couldn't they have chosen "Queen Of the Angels", or "Star of The Sea", or Mariannissa, or even Marian?), isn't my favourite name for someone rather like myself … hmm, I think Despina/Despoine is a sensational name, I might have chosen, if I was conceited – no, Misty or Mysty was a name I very much admired as a child, in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when it had been much more rarely used than it has been now, and - as well as being the name of the uber-glamorous heroine of my favourite girls mystery and spooky stories comic - was like a hippie nature name. I was much influenced then by hippie culture - I've always loved the hippies –and I loved how Misty had a descriptive potential for poetic elaboration, i.e., Misty Ocean Moon, Misty Elven Moonwings, Misty Chalice Dreams, etc … a huge improvement on boring Mary, as far as I was concerned …
Apologies for personal taste, but extremely commonplace and/or plain names have never been my cup of tea. I always hated having the world's most commonplace female name, and one so plain, from the age of nine, when all my story books were overflowing with fascinating and interesting names I'd never come across before. I've always loved words, and what can be artistically created with them, and I think unusual names can be sensationally poetic, and delightfully erudite, and, I'm not a fan of normality; to me normal usually means insensitive, dull and cruel, (unless we're talking about home comforts! The normalcy of a cat, or a simple home-made soup, or a perfect cup of tea, are to me exquisite …). I believe words have power, hold very influential energy – and, unless you want to be extremely generic, mainstream, and/or Catholic, Mary as a late 20th century name had and has very detrimental energies - particularly if you live in certain places.
My poetry was all written at least five years ago, as I've been occupied 24/7 for many years with being a carer within my family, and then with my own ill health. I've written lots more poems than are shared on this site, but I don't wish to publicise all of them on here. I'm primarily a dark fantasy and spirituality writer. I hope that my verses bring some pleasure and benefit to others . I've long wanted to do performance art and music around my writing, and if that's ever possible in the near future, considering I could have heavy family responsibilities, I may seek out or feel I need a collaborator. I can rarely write to order these days – I usually need to feel inspired first – so, maybe this site could show a potential collaborator my usual writing style, for a start.
